Speaker: Professor Falk Schwendicke

Professor and Head of Department, Oral Diagnostics, Digital Health and Health Services Research. Demonstrable track record of clinical and scientific excellence in the field of diagnostics, operative, preventive and data-driven dentistry. Falk’s research is aimed at answering questions of high clinical relevance. His research focus is on cariology and restorative dentistry, preventive and public health dentistry, dental diagnostics and AI as well as health economics and health services research. He has authored over 300 articles, edited various books and provided over 20 book chapters on a range of issues, from caries management to health economics. Falk was awarded a range of prestigious awards, among them the Basil Bibby and Lion Award of the IADR, numerous awards of the German Society of Conservative Dentistry as well as the David Sackett Award of the German Network for Evidence-based Medicine. He reviews for over 40 peer-reviewed journals, among them the Lancet, as well as various national funding agencies. He serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Dental Research and has been on the editorial board of various dental journal before. His work on AI for dental imagery analysis led to the first dental Charité spin-off, dentalXrai GmbH.

Developing Clinical Informaticians in Dentistry
Speaker: Dr Tashfeen Kholasi - Dentist, CCIO, CSO & FCI Fellow

Tashfeen is a practising primary and secondary care dentist in addition to being a CCIO for a group of dental practices, leading on the digital transformation of services. She works closely with the NHS and software suppliers to undertake first of types unique to dentistry. Further she has a strong interest in Clinical Safety in Health IT and is CSO for a decision support platform. Tashfeen was the former National Clinical Lead for Digital Dentistry at NHSE/X where she delivered the first interoperability proof of concept between NHS111 and urgent dental care in addition to establishing the Digital Dental Network for supplier engagement and the Digitally Enabling Dentistry Conferences to connect dentistry to the rest of healthcare. She has achieved the Diploma in Digital Leadership from the NHS Digital Academy, is a fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics and has a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics prior to embarking on her career in dentistry. Tashfeen is currently completing her masters in Healthcare Leadership & Commissioning from Brighton Medical School.
